I'll be doing two Holiday Pet Photo events this year.
The first is a fundraiser for Atlanta Boxer Rescue this Saturday, November 4 from Noon until 3 PM at Dog City Bakery, 4369 Roswell Rd., Marietta, GA, (770) 971-5200. There will be a different Santa for ABR this year.
The second event will take place on Sunday, November 12 from Noon until 4 PM at Pet Supplies Plus, 3240 South Cobb Drive Ste 750, Smyrna, GA, (707) 431-0029.
Both events will be first come, first serve. The event for Atlanta Boxer Rescue will be outside but so far, the weather forecast looks decent. The event at Pet Supplies Plus will be inside.

Well, life certainly has been different since the last Pet Holidays Portraits event in 2019 - thank you Covid-19. I did not do a single shoot last year (2020) - once again, thank you Covid-19. This year, I've only scheduled one event - it will be at Pet Supplies Plus at 3240 South Cobb Drive SE Suite 750 in Smyrna, GA (Phone 770-431-0029) on December 5 from 1:00PM until 4:00PM. This is a no appointment type event (come stand in line - first come, first serve).
Santa and I are fully vaccinated and will be wearing masks as will our helpers. We will require all participants to also wear masks and maintain 6 ft spacing while in line.
There is no sitting fee or donation required for this event. Once I've processed the images, I'll select one from each sitting and upload it to the Smyrna Pet Supplies Plus Facebook page where you will be able to download it as a medium resolution image (1200 pixels) at no charge. The rest of the images will be available on my website where you will be able to purchase prints, greeting cards, and other products. You will receive written instructions on how to access the images during the event.

Prior to the event, I was a bit concerned as it was to take place outside and the weather forecast was calling for 11 mph winds with gusts up to 20. I also knew that dealing with the ever changing ambient light was going to be a challenge.
I set up under the roof of the covered sidewalk in front of the store so the set wasn't completely exposed. I had added grommets to the sides of the backdrop the night before so I was able anchor it to the support stands to help keep it from flopping the the breeze. A couple of 15 pound sandbags strategically placed kept the whole backdrop system from blowing over.
Power outlets were not handy so my Paul C. Buff Einstein 640 lights were powered by Buff's Vagabond Mini Lithium battery packs. I was surprised how fast the lights recycled on battery power and though they were running very low by the end of the event, the batteries lasted for well over 800 shots!
All in all, things went very smoothly and folks were very generous with their donations to help Atlanta Boxer Rescue with their mission for rescuing, vetting and finding loving homes the Boxer breed.

Sandy Springs, Georgia held their Independence Day celebration on July 3rd instead of the 4th this year - probably so as to NOT compete with the big one at Lenox Mall on the 4th. Rain delayed the start of the music for 30 or 40 minutes but once the rain stopped, the band Shiloh put on a fine show and the fireworks display was excellent.
I left my tripod at home so I had an opportunity to practice my hand-held long exposure techniques.
I used a Sony NEX-7 with the standard 18-55mm kit lens using various ISO and exposure settings.

Whenever I need a promo shot for a pet portrait event, Mr. T gets stuck being the model. He has posed with Santa, The Easter Bunny, with his backpack, swimming, basking in the sunshine, running in snow etc. When he sees my camera, I can see the thought bubbles..... "Great, what does he want me to do now? He'd better not be out of treats."
This shot was taken on my Autumn set at Dog School 101 in Marietta, Georgia. Exposure info: Sony a99 with Tamron 70-300mm @130mm, f5.6 1/200 with two Paul C. Buff Einstein 640 flashes set at about a 100° angle and approximately a 1:2 light ratio.
